Hanna Could Affect Weekend Events
Tropical Storm Expected to Make Landfall This Weekend
SPARTANBURG, SC – The National Weather Service has already issued hurricane warnings for the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos even though Hanna is still being classified as a tropical storm Wednesday morning.
Although no warnings have been issued for South Carolina, with fronts clearing out of the Caribbean and Atlantic Hanna is expected to reorganize and strengthen into a Category I hurricane by this evening or tomorrow. The projected path of Hanna is calling for a landfall somewhere along the coast of the Carolinas Saturday morning.
Local authorities are already preparing for the storm and some area high schools have moved Friday football games to Thursday night. For SMC, volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer are all scheduled to play this weekend as well.
Men’s soccer is set to take on USC Salkehatchie at 1pm in Allendale, SC. Volleyball is headed into the eastern coast North Carolina where they will take on Lenoir CC in Kinston, NC Friday night and Pitt CC in Greenville, NC on Saturday afternoon. Women’s soccer is set to play at home on Sunday in a 4pm match-up versus USC Lancaster.
As of Wednesday afternoon there have been no cancellations or changes to the athletics events scheduled for this weekend.
