De La Cueva Scores Twice in Win Over Wake Tech
Men’s Soccer starts off season 1-0
SPARTANBURG, SC – Vincent De La Cueva (Charlotte, NC/Independence HS) scored two goals to help lead the Spartanburg Methodist College men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory in their season opener versus Wake Tech CC on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, NC.
As a freshman, this was De La Cueva’s first start as a Pioneer. He was assisted on both goals by sophomore, Andy Castano (Orlando, FL/Freedom HS).
Freshman forward, Joshua Trejo (Polk, NC/Polk HS), was the second to score as he notched his first goal of the season and career on the assist from freshman Sean Flynn (Columbia, SC/Spring Valley HS).
With the win SMC moves to 1-0 in Region X play and 1-0 overall. The men’s soccer team will be back in action this Saturday when they to Allendale, SC for another Region X match-up versus USC Salkehatchie.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 98th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
