Pioneer Volleyball Wins Two
Dean Named All-Tournament
SPARTANBURG, SC – The Spartanburg Methodist College volleyball team went 2-3 over the weekend with wins over Louisburg College (25-10, 25-15) and Snead State Community
College (25-23, 25-20) at the 2nd Annual Pioneer Volleyball Classic.
The Pioneers suffered losses to Laredo Community College (25-21, 21-25, 7-15), Pitt Community College (16-25, 25-19, 11-15) and North Lake College (26-28, 21-25).
Tiffany Dean was named to the All-Tournament team as she finished the weekend with 25 kills, 61 digs, five blocks and one ace. The All-Tournament team was voted on by each coach at the end of each match. Ana Fogatu (Laredo) was named tournament MVP.
Laredo went 5-0 in the tournament and eventually beat Pitt (25-7, 25-20) to win the 2nd Annual Pioneer Classic in just their first appearance.
SMC will be back in action this Saturday at 1pm versus Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Spartanburg Methodist College is in its 98th year of providing quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
